PRACTICUM LOG - DAILY EXERCISE - Turned in weekly (40% of your grade)

Below you see a wiki version of the Practicum Log. Above is the Word version that you will need to download in order to fill it in as each week progresses in your practicum experience.

GOAL: TO PROVIDE THE PRACTICUM STUDENT WITH AN OVERVIEW OF THE DIMENSIONS AND COMPLEXITY OF THE ROLES OF THE SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

OBJECTIVES:
  • To provide concrete specific activities the practicum student should seek to experience.
  • To demonstrate the breadth of activities the practicum student should observe or participate in.
  • To relate the roles of the school librarian to the MoSTEP Performance Indicators for librarian roles
  • To encourage the practicum student to participate as fully in the educational experience of the school(s) as much as possible
  • To learn from expert practitioners in the field through observation as well as interaction
  • This list is a not meant to be conclusive but to be illustrative.
  • Provide a real-time list of activities which will be used to evaluate the success of the practicum experience in the PRACTICUM EVALUATION CHECKLIST (Assignment 5_

  1. Each week during your practicum experience, record the various roles of the school librarian that you both observe and participate in.
  2. For the roles of the school librarian that you PARTICIPATE IN or OBSERVE - relate to a MoSTEP indicator
  3. Indicate the amount of time that you spend in PARTICIPATION or OBSERVATION in the role of the school librarian and total for the week.
    1. For each activity use the code at the bottom of the log sheet with brief note describing the activity
    2. Examples of what you might enter:
      1. IS1 - Demonstrate Animoto
      2. PA9 - Write up Banned Books Week
  4. Indicate the amount of time that you involve yourself in educational non-library activities in your building(s) and total for the week.
  5. You will journal about your activities at the end of the week discussing your experiences in more detail.
  6. Upload your WEEKLY LOG in the ASSIGNMENTS section of Blackboard. Your log is due SUNDAY EVENING by midnight as is your JOURNAL. Points will be deducted if your LOG or JOURNAL are turned in late.

NOTE: If you are a practicum student who is doing the practicum in your own library, please arrange to work with or observe at least one other librarian at a different level than your own building. That is the only way you can fill in the column of "Roles of school librarians observed by the practicum student."

NOTE: Since the weekly PRACTICUM LOG is the basis for completing assignment #5 (PRACTICUM EVALUATION CHCKLIST) you may want to go ahead and enter the information from the weekly activities into the CHECKLIST. This will make assignment #4 not seem so overwhelming.

NOTE: Neither the PRACTICUM LOG or the CHECKLIST need to remain at the page length as they are originally presented. Add as many rows as you need in order to present a complete picture of your experience. Fortunately, Word expands exponentially. Hah!
